After 2 months, a handful of races, and a thousand or more miles, I can’t say enough positive things about my new Magnus! Stiff and quick would be understatements. The chainstays are massive (as called out by my LBS one day after stopping in to use their floor pump)… the bike surges ahead with the slightest power input. I was riding a fairly stiff aluminum bike before, but I never knew how much better it could be. This being my first experience with a carbon frame, I was curious how ride comfort would compare to my previously mentioned aluminum frame. Some might say the Magnus is so stiff that you suffer a bit of compliance. Not me! It rides like a dream!
Stylistically, the Magnus is a bit understated from my perspective. Having purchased the Selene for my son at the same time, I would say the Selene is the “Beauty”, while the Magnus is the “Beast”. It just looks like muscle and adrenaline packaged into a stealth, black frame. It’s the tough bad-boy on the block.
While I don’t have the lightest build on this bike, it still comes in just a bit over 16lbs. I’ll continue to make component upgrades to bring it down even further. Never-the-less, I couldn’t be happier. Chad has been fantastic to work with, and very responsive to any questions or concerns. His customer service is top notch! I’m excited to see the Velocite brand grow in the coming years, and have been lobbying for a Cyclocross model in the very near future (hopefully before next cross season!).
I really can’t wait to put a full season of training/racing in on this bike! I hope to see more Velocite bikes out here in the Pacific Northwest. You can’t go wrong with this brand.

Great review.
ReplyDeleteThe Magnus was my first carbon frame as well - I love it!
